Artist Statement
Being an artist in 2024 is one of the most juxtaposing feeling to experience. I find that everyone has an opinion, a feeling, and a comment; All needing to be heard. We are going through a shift of what is relevant and socially acceptable. As a photographer, the work I make is typically about people and capturing the beauty of expression and emotion. I choose to shoot portraits and tableau because people are the best tool to convey said expressions. I would like my viewers to see something aesthetically pleasing at first glance and feel the pain or the joy that I am conveying in the second look. Everything in my photos is intentional from the composition and lighting to the model and what they are wearing. I make a lot of my photographs doing most of the work before I take the picture. I set up cues or markings on the subject in the frame that help me when I take the photographs into Photoshop for further transformation. I like to leave all my work open-ended. There can always be another photograph added in my series, this way I am never restricted by time or lack of experience.
